With Bold Museum, a Virginia City Aims for Visibility
Woods Rogers' main office is nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains of the Roanoke Valley. With a population of 250,000, it is the largest metropolitan area in western Virginia. This unique location makes it the region's hub for commerce, health care and entertainment. Roanoke is one of only two cities in the country named an "All American City" five times. Certainly a large part of that recognition emanates from the community that welcomes newcomers while offering scenic beauty and cultural arts.
Woods Rogers is one of the largest law firms in Virginia west of Richmond. Headquartered in Roanoke, the firm has other offices in Richmond, Lynchburg and Danville. Founded in 1893, the firm is divided into two major practice sections: Business and Litigation. The Business Section consists of the following practice groups: Corporate, Regulatory & Natural Resources, Tax, Health Law, and Intellectual Technology Law. The Litigation Section consists of the following practice groups: Labor & Employment, Appellate Practice, Commercial Litigation, Complex Litigation, Construction Law, Local Government, Products Liability, Professional Liability, and Transportation Law.
Attorneys at the firm have a long tradition of contributing their time to the boards of local non-profit organizations and pro-bono matters. The firm believes time spent outside the office not only gives back substantial benefits to the community but also assists associates in developing the judgment, experience and contacts necessary to realize their full potential.
To help you unwind from challenges of the day, Roanoke offers theater, symphony, opera, and ballet, a number of excellent museums, as well as semi-professional and Division I, II and III college baseball, basketball, football, hockey and soccer teams. For those who love the outdoors, mountain biking trails, fly-fishing on Virginia's premier rivers, boating and fun on Smith Mountain Lake, hiking and biking the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway are all within easy reach in every direction. Skiing, white water rafting and rock climbing are within easy driving distance. Numerous Virginia wineries are only a short drive and provide tours, tastings and outdoor concerts throughout the peak seasons.
Woods Rogers seeks energetic, creative candidates with high academic achievement, including participation on law review, moot court and trial advocacy teams or comparable experience; strong employment background; strong interpersonal skills, leadership potential and commitment to civic and community involvement. The firm hires summer associates after both their first and second years of law school. The firm also considers third-year law students, judicial clerks, and lateral hires. Woods Rogers is an equal opportunity employer and actively recruits qualified minority applicants, with faculty liaisons at various law schools to encourage minority applications.
