William B. Poff, consistently recognized as one of the region’s premier attorneys, has received the 2008 Frank W. "Bo" Rogers Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award from the Roanoke Bar Association.

The award recognizes an outstanding lawyer who embodies the highest tradition of personal and professional excellence in Southwest Virginia and, in doing so, enhances the image and esteem of attorneys in the region.

“No one is more deserving of this award, which is made all the more special because it was established in honor of Bo Rogers,” said Tom Bagby, president of Woods Rogers PLC.

Poff is a former principal and now Of Counsel in the Roanoke office of Woods Rogers. He has extensive experience in commercial and civil litigation. He has argued and tried cases in federal and state courts, including the Virginia Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Poff has been named in the Best Lawyers in America publication since its inception and has been named the “Valley’s Top Attorney” in The Roanoker Magazine.

He is a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel and has served on the National Executive Committee since 1993. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has served on the Rules Advisory Committee of both the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Virginia Supreme Court.

Poff joined Woods Rogers in 1959 after completing undergraduate work at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and earning his LL.B. from Washington and Lee University summa cum laude, member of Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif.

He received The Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys(VADA) Award for Excellence in Civil Litigation in 2004. The VADA notes that Poff demonstrates the highest quality of ability and leadership in the legal profession and is often thought of as a role model.
