Alexander I. Saunders is a principal in the Roanoke office of Woods Rogers PLC with 30 years experience in Tax and Corporate law. Alex's practice includes tax planning for individuals and businesses, estate planning, corporate sales and acquisitions, and representing businesses and individuals before tax authorities and in Court on tax matters. He has written and lectured extensively in the fields of tax law and corporate law and was one of the authors of the first treatise on Limited Liability Companies in Virginia. He is listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" in the field of Taxation. He has been named in “Virginia Business Magazine” as one of the Legal Elite under Taxes/Estates/Trusts. Alex has also been named in “The Roanoker Magazine” for the last two years as the Valley’s top individual attorney in tax law by vote of members of the local bar. Alex has also been named as a Virginia Super Lawyer in the Virginia Super Lawyer Magazine. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Tax Section), Virginia Bar Association (Tax Section) and the Roanoke Bar Association. He has been a member of the Virginia-West Virginia IRS Liaison Committee. Alex is also a member and former chairman of the Roanoke College Estate Planning Council, member and former chairman of the Ferrum College Estate Planning Council, a member of the Roanoke Valley Estate Planning Council and a member of The Jefferson Center’s Planned Giving Council. Alex has served on the Board of the Roanoke Valley YMCA and is Counsel to the organization. He has served on numerous other local charitable boards, including the Science Museum of Western Virginia and the Foundation for Roanoke Valley. A graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire, the University of Virginia (B.S. in Finance), the University of Virginia Law School (J.D.) and New York University (Master of Laws in Taxation), he served as law clerk to Judge H. S. Boreman of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals before joining the firm.
