Joshua C. Wykle is an associate at Woods Rogers in the firm’s Corporate, Tax and Trusts & Estate sections. Josh joined Woods Rogers in 2008 after practicing tax law and estate planning in Charlottesville, Virginia. Josh received an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida in 2006 and now focuses his practice on various aspects of transactional planning. Such tax practice includes:
- Preparing and filing private letter ruling requests and Tax Court petitions
- Organizing and drafting for all aspects of § 355 corporate spin offs and split ups
- Advising on the sale of stock and closely held business interests
- Detailing corporate acquisitions
- Representation of public charities and private foundations
- Avoiding pitfalls in aircraft sales and purchases, including state sales and use tax issues
Josh’s trusts & estate practice includes:
- Drafting wills, medical directives and powers of attorney
- Estate planning involving the use of revocable trusts, irrevocable Crummey Trusts and Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts
- Representation in state court on matters involving trust termination and reformation
- Preparation of estate tax returns, gift tax returns and income tax returns for trusts
- General administration of estates
Within the framework of both his Taxation practice and Trusts & Estate practice, Josh handles many aspects of Corporate practice, including advising on the formation of particular entities, securitization of assets, real estate transfers, and drafting of shareholder agreements and operating agreements.
While in law school, Josh had the opportunity to clerk for the Honorable Judge Paul M. Peatross, Jr. in the Circuit Court of Albemarle County, Virginia as well as perform an externship for the Honorable T. Michael Putnam, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. Josh is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College where he served as a legislative intern in the Virginia General Assembly and was named a member of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society. Prior to joining Woods Rogers, Josh practiced with the Charlottesville firm, Skeen Law Offices.
