The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (“ICANN”), which approves generic top level domains, is currently considering whether to allow the domain name “.sucks” to be registered. ICANN is currently rolling out hundreds of new generic top level domains over the course of several years, adding words like .faith and .camera to the current mix that includes .com and .org. Now several companies are arguing that ICANN should allow “.sucks” to be added to that list. The “.sucks” debate is just getting started, but it has already cleared the first hurdle by even being considered for approval by ICANN.
