HR often makes a decision for one employee that impacts others—and these decisions are protected by federal employment laws. These aptly named “rock-and-a-hard-place” issues arise every day in the workplace and can include accommodating an employee’s religious preference, not recognizing a transgender employee’s gender identity, or advising on how to handle an employee’s freedom of speech expression that conflicts with company dress codes.
