Woods Rogers’ President and Principal Dan Summerlin was interviewed by Law360 recently for a story about the former U.S. attorney – and former Woods Rogers principal – who will handle President Donald Trump’s unprecedented lawsuit against the Maryland federal judiciary. U.S. District Judge Thomas T. Cullen of the Western District of Virginia practiced at Woods Rogers for five years, and Law360 sought Dan’s perspective on the judge’s experience and leadership.

“Uniformly, everybody says it feels like they get treated fairly,” Dan said of Judge Cullen’s reputation on the bench. “Of course, you’re not always going to agree with his decisions, or they may not be the decision you wanted. But I think without fail, people feel like they were treated fairly and that he was an incredible professional about it.”

Judge Cullen practiced in Woods Rogers’ Government & Special Investigations practice before re-entering public service. Dan recalls, “He was interested in the firm and making it the best place it could be. I think everybody would describe him here as a wonderful partner, and we were very sad to see him leave.”

About his involvement in the high-profile case against the federal judiciary, of Judge Cullen, Dan predicts, “He is going to be thorough, he is going to be diligent, and he is going to be completely fair and let the law guide him. That is what he will do unfailingly.”
