‘The Work Has Changed’: How White-Collar Attorneys Are Coping
Woods Rogers Government & Special Investigations attorney Justin Lugar recently spoke with Law360 for a story that looks at how white-collar legal work has changed, thanks to the Trump administration’s policy enforcement changes over the past year. Many firms across the country have seen a shift in the types of matters, largely reflecting a backlog at the Department of Justice.
According to Justin in an interview with Law360, in the Western District of Virginia, white-collar prosecutions have slowed because of turnover and strained resources at the local DOJ office. “Prosecutions are down in our district,” Justin said. “We're not seeing a whole lot of white collar work being done,” because the local DOJ office “has had a lot of people leave … and they’re not being backfilled. So there’s not a lot of bodies to actually be doing the complicated investigative work.”
Justin served as a federal prosecutor before joining Woods Rogers in 2024.
