Get To Know Coleman

Coleman is a seasoned trial attorney who draws on seven years’ experience as a federal prosecutor to guide corporate and individual clients through government investigations, criminal enforcement actions, and complex special investigations.

He combines courtroom experience and institutional knowledge with a pragmatic approach to litigation, positioning him as a trusted advisor when the stakes and scrutiny are highest.

Most recently, Coleman served as the Managing Assistant United States Attorney for the Roanoke Criminal Division in the Western District of Virginia, where he supervised a team of prosecutors responsible for investigating and prosecuting federal crimes in Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville, and the New River Valley. In this position, he was responsible for approving (or declining) new cases, proposed indictments, plea agreements, and search warrants. As Managing Assistant, Coleman regularly interacted with the United States Attorney, First Assistant, and Criminal and Appellate Chiefs. He also oversaw the Roanoke Office’s grand jury practices and acted as a liaison to federal and local law enforcement agencies.

Coleman’s firsthand experience on the government's side of the table provides a distinct advantage in anticipating prosecutorial strategy and counseling clients facing a federal investigation. During his tenure in the Western District of Virginia, Coleman personally prosecuted high stakes violent crime, including a RICO prosecution involving gang members and multiple homicides. He also investigated and prosecuted serious firearms and drug trafficking offenses, as well as offenses involving conspiracy and fraud.

Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Coleman built a strong foundation in both state prosecution and private practice. He served five years as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in Danville, Virginia, where he tried thousands of criminal cases, ranging from speeding tickets to drug possession to murder, and earned recognition from the Virginia State Police for his work combating insurance fraud.

In private practice, Coleman represented clients in state and federal criminal defense, business disputes, personal injury, and family law, giving him a well-rounded perspective on litigation.

Outside the office, Coleman enjoys watching sports, playing golf, fishing, and drinking a cold beer after mowing the lawn. He values spending time with his wife and two children, especially during their annual trips to the beach and a lake in Northern Wisconsin.
