The 2024 NLJ 500: Headcount Growth Returns to Pre-Pandemic Levels, The National Law Journal

Firm News

The National Law Journal’s 2024 NLJ 500 is out, and Woods Rogers is excited to have experienced the largest jump among midsized law firms nationwide, thanks to our 2022 merger. President Dan Summerlin told The National Law Journal in an interview, “Both firms were sort of independently thinking about the need to find a partner out there and grow. I think both sides could see where the market was heading in terms of opportunities for midsize law firms and felt like we would be better off if we had a broader base.”

The addition of more than 40 attorneys during the summer of 2022 and 2023 allowed our firm to increase its bench, “opening up new cross-marketing opportunities, as the firm hopes to pick up, through competitive pricing, work that may have traditionally gone to larger firms,” according to Dan.

“As the Am Law 100 and Am Law 200 firms keep bumping up their rates aggressively, there’s real opportunity for midsize firms to pick up some of the work. But you’ve got to make sure you’ve got the right platform that gives [clients] the comfort level in giving that work to you,” he added.
